It was a busy Memorial Day Weekend for us. I started with the usual laundry, cleaning, picking up and the rest. Then I had to catch up on the dishes. Ugh! Our dishwasher is still broken and on principal, I have refused to get it fixed. After all, 4 kids equates to 8 very capable dish washing hands...right? Okay, so you have had a good chuckle by now. Those dishes just keep stacking up. Everyone is conveniently working or on their way out the door when its time to tackle the kitchen sink. And while the girls will reluctantly dry and put away the dishes, when you mention actually washing the darn things, they get a look of sheer terror in their eyes. Me. My hands. In water. With plates, cups and silverware...Oh Pleeeze no!
The other night David was in the family room watching a commercial on TV. It was one of those slow motion things where the shiny fork dips into a chocolate gooey concoction....
"Oh wow."
"What? "
"Look at the TV."
"So? Do you want some dessert."
"No - just LOOK at that. Isn't it amazing?"
"What???"
"Its that beautiful, shiny, clean fork. Oh - I want one of those..."
Last week, the cupboards were empty. Not a clean dish to be found. Max broke down and washed about 4 sinkfuls of dishes when he realized the girls would rather break out the plastic silverware and camping gear than wash a dish.
So, after weeks of this, David announced this morning that the dishwasher repair guy was coming. I explained the kids would pitch in...rise to the occasion. We just needed to give it more time.
"No, I feel sorry for you. Its alot of dishes..."
"For ME?"
"US. US. I meant US."
"I can manage. And they will come around. I just know they will. "
"Pam."
"They will."
"Pam..."
"You found them didn't you."
"Yeah. Stacks of 'em. In the oven, in the pantry cupboard..."
"I was going to get to them tonight...."
"Pam."
"Alright ~ What time is he coming?"
Aside from the house stuff...We spent some time at the new shop cleaning and painting.
Genevieve and Izzy are very happy to have a Barnes & Nobles close by. A little babysitting and birthday money and voila:
The two of them got right down to business soaking up the sunshine on the front steps of the new shop~
We took down a wall upstairs so now we have plenty of room for our couches:
And David began painting the purple walls downstairs...
Ahhh..Nothing says "Spirit Work" like our purple walls. Its definitely starting to look like home.
